WHAT GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS? Melbourne is back in the saddle again.
Melbourne's back in the saddle again. For all the fuss about property doom and gloom, there seems to be a re-think on exactly how battered and bruised Australia will actually get during this Global Financial Crisis. With years of property prices edging higher and higher, we saw the apex of the boom hit in November 2007 and bottoming out in March 2009. Since then, it has made a steady incline with ever-increasing bouts of boom-time bliss.
Melbourne house prices in particular have proven to butt recent trends, seemingly glossing over the times many wish to forget, giving a new perspective on how Australia's states are progressing.
Last weekend 32 Grange Road, Toorak sold for $4,116,000, a whopping $500 thousand over its reserve. Even a house in Kew sold for $4.8million this month along with other properties reaching their desired $4million price tag in the inner east such as 12 Como Avenue, South Yarra and 22 Stonnington Place, Toorak.
Brighton and Armadale seemed to favor the $2-$3million dollar mark keeping it firmly in the ‘family friendly' range of prestige housing affordability. Richmond and Hawthorn East each reported healthy sales of $100 thousand over the asking price.
Whether it is low interest rates or competitive bargain seekers, the market is demonstrating that no matter how many analysts analyse, the world evolves in its own astonishing way.
