Celebrity Neighbours
Actress Wendy Wilkins has moved from Ramsay Street to a much more prestigious neighbourhood. The former Neighbours star has moved on to property sales in Hollywood, picking and choosing the neighbours of celebrities.
No stranger to big names, Wilkins has acted alongside Academy award nominees, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ralph Fiennes. She now works and resides among A-list stars as a multimillion-dollar realtor. Her latest project is marketing an iconic Loz Feliz property.
Situated on the only piece of land remaining beside the famous Griffith Park Observatory, the architectural property enjoys a main house and a guesthouse, which share two and a half acres. The property looks out to sweeping views over the Los Angeles skyline and downtown. Both house and guesthouse feature rooftop decks, and pocket sliders which become concealed to open the house to the very special view.
Still acting and writing film scripts, the multi-tasking and talented Wilkins has recently landed in Melbourne where she will be enjoying some time in her childhood surrounds. Not one to put her feet up, she will be spending her two months here selling the brand new Fender Katsalidis designed building Sandyhill, in Sandringham.

The Best of the Best
A Melbourne CBD penthouse, described as ‘the best of the best’, has been put on the market at $7 million. This plush apartment currently belongs to bookmaking legend Mark Read and his wife Shari, who purchased it in 2002, hours after viewing it for the first time. Aware of the currently flat property market, Read has described the address as an “international commodity” that is on par with anything available in New York or London.
The apartment is impressively laid out with American oak floors, limestone bathrooms and imported light fittings. Features include five bedrooms, four bathrooms, parking space for three vehicles, study with office facilities and meeting room, external storage and a gourmet kitchen fitted with Gaggenau appliances. The apartment is situated at the Paris End of Melbourne’s stylish Collins St, above the 5 Star Westin Hotel. A North and East orientation gifts the apartment with an abundance of natural light. Tenants will enjoy being moments from Melbourne’s best restaurants and shopping, the Regent Theatre, Arts Centre, Federation Square and National Gallery of Victoria. In addition to the prime CBD location, the entire range of luxury services of the Westin Hotel, including concierge, are at the occupant’s disposal.
Following a recent stroke, Read has decided to heed the advice of his doctors and make a lifestyle change. The pair now plan to pursue Mark’s passion for farming and spend more time at their Yarra Valley property.

Escape to Elandra
‘Elandra’, a beachfront estate situated on Sydney’s glitzy Newport Beach, is up for sale and expected to fetch in excess of $10 million. The estate is designed by the highly regarded architect Susan Rothwell, famous for her Tuscan architecture and redevelopment of Palm Beach property with husband Garry Rothwell of Winten Property Group.
With private direct beach access, 270° views of the Pacific Ocean and breathtaking surrounds and acres of open space surrounding the property, Elandra’s gated grounds offer a world-class beachside seclusion – all a mere sandy two-minute stroll from the seaside village of Newport and the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. Hand cut pink and white sandstone and hardwood timber from Sydney’s nearby Finger Wharf give the walls an authentic and local solidity. Sprawling covered verandahs lead you to a keyless entry inside, where you will find four bedrooms and bathrooms, a cinema room, gym, steam room, spa pool, gourmet kitchen with feature blackbutt and stone block bench, and two spacious open-plan living areas.
The gated property represents an exclusivity rarely found in Australian beach-front properties. One of only five level blocks on the beach front, homes along this strip are notoriously difficult to attain: three of the last sales of these homes went to neighbours. With the earthy glamour of estates like Elandra it’s no wonder.

Discount Mansions
The changing property market on the Gold Coast makes it the perfect time to inspect some of Australia’s most beautiful properties – of course, strictly by private appointment only. Take, for example, the ‘Modernist Masterpiece’ designed by prominent Australian architect Alex Popov. The property is situated on the riverfront at the Gold Coast’s most exclusive address, Cronin Island.
The showpiece home features five luxurious bedrooms, four bathrooms and a powder room. The architect’s understated elegance sees the unique open plan living space look out to the inviting heated pool and river. The landscaping is the work of celebrity gardener Andrew Pfieffer. The master wing is completed by stunning balcony views, bathroom, and extensive walk-in-robe. The home also features a detached bungalow, with guest bedroom, bathroom and gymnasium.
Previous tenant Stacey McIvor, wife of merchant banker Mark McIvor, was dismayed at the top bid of $4.55 million at the recent auction. If you are in the market to buy one of these incredible waterfront mansions, the time is nigh – earlier this year, a property on Hedges Avenue, also known as “Millionaire’s Row”, at Mermaid Beach sold for less than half of its 2008 selling price.
Property buyers now have an opportunity to invest in spectacular properties of supreme sophistication and luxury until the next market high.
