My Corona! A golden slice of history
A Melbourne landmark property, named ‘Corona’, has come on the market in the leafy suburb of Kew.
The house was built by Lloyd Tayler, a leading architect of the time who designed iconic buildings such as the Bank of Australia in Adelaide, the Australian Club in Melbourne, and the Melbourne Exchange. He also built many notable homes in Melbourne, including ‘Thyra’, ‘Blair Athol’ and ‘Cherry Chase’ in Brighton; ‘Leighswood’ in Toorak; and ‘Roxcraddock’ in Caulfield.
Tayler, who built ‘Corona’ in 1896 for his son-in-law J. C. Anderson, designed the house with grand exterior aesthetics and majestic interiors. The impressive entry hall features an arched hallway with a magnificent timber domed ceiling. The home also boasts elegant formal sitting and dining rooms, library with marble open fireplaces, sunroom, marble kitchen, an informal living and dining domain, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, home theatre, wine cellar, gym, and a billiards room with bar.
The grounds include a pristine tennis court, established gardens designed by Andrew Nash, swimming pool and spa, and a separate one-bedroom apartment above the double garage and workshop.
