The darling of Darling Point

A historic landmark in Darling Point, named Greenoaks Cottage, has been listed for exclusive private sale.

The house was built around 1846 by Thomas Mort, a wealthy Australian industrialist responsible for improving refrigeration of meat. Mort was renowned in the local pastoral industry as well as industrial activities such as his Ice-Works in Sydney's Darling Harbour and dry dock and engineering works at Balmain.

Greenoaks Cottage resides on over 1300 square metres and offers vast interiors with exquisite period details, soaring ceilings, original stained glass windows, and tranquil gardens boasting sweeping level lawns. The home, which is currently configured as three separate apartments, includes nine bedrooms, and seven bathrooms.

Mort made additions to the house including an art gallery to display his many treasures, such as Elizabethan armour, old English coats of mail, a cabinet that had belonged to Marie Antoinette, antique oak furniture and about 120 pictures. He was also a keen gardener and regularly opened the estates grounds to the public and won many prizes at flower shows in the 1840s and 1850s.

One week after his death in 1883, his achievements were commemorated by unveiling a sculpture in Macquarie Place by Pierce Connolly.

Elin Nordegren on the hunt

Elin Nordegren, ex-wife of Tiger Woods, is reportedly house hunting in Florida, quashing rumours she planned to return to her native Sweden with the children shared with Tiger.

Nordegren, who is believed to have signed a $100 million-divorce settlement in August, was seen touring the $4.5 million-penthouse with son Charlie.

The tenth floor Jupiter Island Luxury Condominium features four bedrooms, five bathrooms, vast outdoor terraces, and ocean views. The building includes a 24-hour concierge, live in building manager, state of the art fitness facility, and a heated pool and spa.

While Nordegren is hoping to move as soon as she secures a suitable residence, she still lives in the prestigious Windermere area of Orlando where the couple lived in their family house prior to the very public demise of their marriage. Woods is also scheduled to move into his new Jupiter Island house before the end of the year.

Frangipani wins Master Builders award

Brisbane based developers Vicpas,  have good reason to celebrate;  Frangipani Apartments have won the Queensland Master Builders award 2010 for the category of ‘Residential Building, High Rise over 3 Storeys, up to $15m’ .
