World's most expensive penthouse

The world's most expensive penthouse has sold for $US308 million.

Located in the prestigious tax haven of Monaco, the property was reportedly bought by a member of Dubai's royal family, the Al-Mahktoums, headed by the immensely wealthy Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum.

The 18,500 square foot penthouse, named La Belle Epoque, was formerly the home of of billionaire banker Edmund Safra, who was found dead in the apartment after a mysterious fire occurred in 1999. It includes three bedrooms, double height library, panic room with reinforced glass and surveillance cameras, a dining room with a platinum leaf ceiling, a leisure room with billiard tables and arcade games, electronically concealed cinema screens in living areas, and a media room with chairs that convert into beds. Outside features an entertaining terrace with mature trees and an infinity pool.

The property was sold by famous British property developers Christian and Nick Candy, who purchased it after the fire and spent $40 million renovating it to what it is today.
