Taking home building prices to new heights

The world’s most expensive home for 2010 has been revealed as a custom-built 27 story skyscraper in Mumbai.

Home of the world’s fifth richest man, Mukesh Ambani, the 570 feet tall building was designed by architecture firms Perkins + Will and Hirsch Bedner Associates, the designers behind the Mandarin Oriental.

Named ‘Antilla’, the buildings shape is based on Vaastu, an Indian tradition similar to Feng Shui. It includes six stories of parking, nine elevators, double height ceilings, ballrooms with crystal chandeliers that cover 80% of the ceiling space, a four-story open garden, and entertainment halls with retractable stages, green rooms and entourage rooms.

The building also includes an entire level dedicated to health with a swimming pool, yoga studio, and an ice room, which is a cooled chamber dusted by man-made snow, to escape the Mumbai heat.

At a cost nearing $2 billion, the Ambani residence is due to be completed in January, after a four-year build, and will have 400,000 square feet of interior space.

McGraw, best known as ‘Dr. Phil’, is a former psychologist and first gained status with appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show throughout the 1990’s. Since 2002, McGraw landed his own television show, ‘Dr. Phil’, and has written numerous books.

The three-quarters of an acre property includes walled and gated perimeters, a detached guesthouse, an outdoor dining room, and a swimming pool. The Mediterranean-styled main residence features double story entrance, eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, home theatre, gym, billiards room, and temperature-controlled wine storage.

The couple have reportedly purchased a property nearby which they have admired for many years.
