New record for Sydney's apartment sales

Owner of Sargents Pies, Ian Allen, has purchased ‘The Toaster’ apartment in Sydney in $6.5 million, making it the highest sale price for an apartment this year.

Mr Allen, who also bought an adjoining apartment late last year in the exclusive Bennelong complex at Circular Quay for $6.96 million, purchased this apartment from businessman James Bosnjak, who paid $3.6 million for it in 1999.

The 188 square metre apartment features amazing views of the Opera House and Sydney‘s famous harbour. It also includes a master retreat with his and her dressing rooms and an adjoining study, two further bedrooms, three marble bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, guest powder room, billiard room with wet bar, five car garage, a resort-style 25 metre heated indoor pool, temperature controlled wine cellar, cool room, and direct internal lift access to grand reception hall.

The building itself offers a concierge, heated indoor pool and separate gymnasium.

Warlow to sell estate

Australian opera and musical theatre performer, Anthony Warlow, has placed his house in NSW’s Burradoo on the market for $2.85 million.

The luxurious home, named ‘Woodbine’, features two master bedroom suites with corresponding marble ensuites, two further bedrooms, and a private guest wing with a double bedroom, ensuite and sitting room. The house also includes a chef's kitchen, formal and informal dining rooms with open fireplaces, tennis court and is surrounded by 4000 square metres of park like gardens.

“We have had the house now for 12 years, and I still remember the first time I entered the house well. I fell in love with the openness of it. It has a homeliness without being austere. We used the house for many holiday periods and Christmas’s, and was a place of refuge for me to escape to learn my lines,” says Anthony Warlow.

Warlow is most famous for his roles as the Phantom in ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Daddy Warbucks in ‘Annie’, Henry Higgins in ‘My Fair Lady’ and as Enjolras in ‘Les Misérables’.

“It’s a sadness to move on, but as the family has grown and with Phoebe (16) ensconced in her ballet, the family rarely has time to get to the property,” says Warlow.

A Jon and Ros Friedrich original

The home of leading design duo, Jon and Ros Friedrich, has been put on the market for $4 million.

Located in one of Melbourne’s best streets of Brighton, the pair set out to create an apartment which was in keeping with the pedigree of the surrounds.

“It had to look like a significant private residence, so that it would blend in with all the other outstanding homes on the street,” says Ros Friedrich.

Their solution was to create a very understated, simple and elegant building, which, as per the brief, appears to be a stately private home when viewed from the street.

The simple exterior masks four very large apartments. Jon and Ros’s is set over 27 squares and exudes a high-end, contemporary feel.

The home features a spacious main bedroom suite, two further bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, fully fitted study, open plan living and dining area with fire-place, north facing terrace, stunning chefs kitchen, secure elevator access, three car garage, and a large roof deck with panoramic views and serviced by a dumb waiter from kitchen.
