Yves Saint Laurent house for sale for $AU6 million
The former residence of world renowned, French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, has been placed on the market.
The Algerian-born French fashion designer first entered the fashion industry in 1953 when his sketches impressed Christian Dior so much, he hired him on the spot. Yves flourished at Dior and by 1957, after Dior died, he became the head designer. Enduring a tumultuous year, Yves found himself outed from Dior which caused the young designer to fall into a two-year breakdown, spending most of this time in a mental institution. Once released in 1960, the re-charged designer then teamed up with his lover, Pierre Bergé, and created the famous brand we now know as ‘Yves Saint Laurent’.
Since Yves death in 2008, much of his belongings have been sold or donated to various foundations. Earlier this year, Christies auctioned off 733 items from the designers house ranging from paintings by Picasso and Matisse to ancient Egyptian sculptures. Now, the designers house itself is being sold. Villa Mabrouka, meaning ‘House of Luck’, is located in a quiet residential street of Tangier. The property features beautiful gardens and a Moroccan inspired interior. Designed by renowned decorator, Jacques Grange, the house displays impressive spaces with accentuated atmosphere. It includes a lobby with white Moroccan arcades, professional kitchen, English style main living room with 180 degree views over the garden and sea, a second living room, a dining room with bamboo-lined walls, home office, library with Colonial-style fireplace, two spacious master suites and two further en suite bedrooms. Outside features separate staff and guard quarters, a heated pool and a pool house.
