David Hicks designed Apartment sold at 401 St Kilda Road
Melbourne interior designer, David Hicks, has stamped his unique style on one of Pan Urban's new state-of-the-art and supremely luxurious ‘401 St Kilda Road’ apartments.
Hicks started in the design industry over 14 years ago and has worked with some of Melbourne’s best architects and designers before being named Young Designer of the Year in 1998. He has won awards for various residential and commercial fit outs, including Eve Bar & Nightclub, Calibre Clothing in Collins Street and Stonemont Winery. Most recently he was a judge on Chanel Nine’s popular renovation show ‘homeMADE’.
The six-level high-end complex features only 17 private residences. The apartment Hicks fitted out comprises 320sqm of living space, three bedrooms (all with ensuites), a mirrored hallway, state of the art appliances, numerous chandeliers, rare white and pink Calacutta marble bench tops, silver Travertine floor and wall tiles, and a generous entertainers terrace facing leafy Arnold Street at the rear. Hicks also custom designed a lot of the furniture in the rooms which are elegantly filled with his signature style of mixing formal with informal elements.
“The combination of beautiful artwork, a collection of antique, modernist and custom made furniture creates a sense of luxury, quality and indulgence. The views over the parklands, the Melbourne CBD and the Shrine truly showcase this city as an international one. Australia has some of the best design in the world which this project shows” says David Hicks
Included in the development are eight ground floor retail shops, which are being leased out to various prestige amenities, including Shannon Bennett’s (of ‘Vue de Monde’ fame) new ‘Cafe Vue’. Bennet has also secured an enormous basement kitchen below the new cafe.

Tweed development leads by example
Construction activity in the Tweed, is set to continue pushing forward at an unprecedented rate, with major planned projects accounting for a significant percentage of the $11.75 billion of development pinpointed in the fast-growing region, new research by Colliers International shows.
The Tweed Development Map, compiled by Colliers International Gold Coast research manager Lynda Campbell, found while $3.4 billion of development was already underway, there was a further $8.3 billion worth of projects in the planning stages.
“It appears the high level of construction activity we have witnessed in this area over the past few years is not slowing down, with the momentum to continue for some time to come on the back of these major planned projects,” says Colliers International Gold Coast Director in Charge, Stewart Gilchrist
The research included major residential, mixed-use, infrastructure, commercial, apartment and retirement projects valued at more than $5 million in Tweed Heads, Banora Point, Bilambil, Terranora, Kingscliff, Casuarina, Murwillumbah and Pottsville.
“The vast majority of development will be centred on creating new housing to accommodate the area’s population growth,” says Lynda Campbell
Major planned projects include the mixed-use $2.5 billion Cobaki Lakes at Cobaki, $2.25 billion Kings Forest at Cudgen, $1.3 billion Rise at Terranora and the $750 million Seaside residential community at Kingscliff.

Nicholas Cage offloads another castle!
Various sources have reported that veteran actor and real estate junkie, Nicholas Cage, is selling one of his Castles for $AU40million.
Located just out of Bath (UK), the 58 acre property includes a Grade One-listed castle, seven bedrooms, two separate cottages, and a ruined chapel.
Card player Henry Disney Roebuck originally built the castle in the late 1700’s and has long been disputed that the rare three-sided building may have been built to replicate the footprint of the Ace of Clubs.
Michael and Isabel Briggs who bought the property in 1961 for just $AU40 thousand repaired and restored the castle back to its former glory. The couple then sold the property to Cage only two years ago for $AU15 million.
Cage has also recently sold a home in the centre of Bath, worth $AU12 million, as well as a $5 million New Orleans mansion, and his $45million Hollywood estate.
The news of the recent sales come after the actor was ordered to pay over $AU8 million in overdue taxes.
