Melbourne’s most expensive home?
Soon to hit the market is one of Toorak’s finest homes and is predicted to sell for a record house price.
The home, named Miegunyah (Aboriginal for ‘my home’), is on a rare two acre lot and is expected to sell for more than the $17.5million paid for Steve Vizard’s Toorak home, which was almost half the size.
The property features six bedrooms, four bathrooms, two studies, two wine cellars, gallery, tennis court, swimming pool, and self contained two bedroom cottage. It also features one of Melbourne’s best examples of private botanic gardens with specimen trees such as Moreton Bay Figs, English Elms and Lilly Pillys all aged in excess of 100 years.
“Miegunyah has been generations in the making and is today home to one of the country’s largest and most renowned private gardens, surrounding a magnificent Georgian-inspired residence. A timeless home in a priceless setting” says agent Joanne Eddey of Kay & Burton
Originally built in 1857, the property has been home to Sir Russell Grimwade, whom gifted the house to his wife, Lady Mabel Louise Grimwade as a wedding present. The property was then bought by Robert Holmes à Court, whom was Australia’s first billionaire and died suddenly of a heart attack in 1990. It is currently owned by Philip Brass, former chief executive of Pacific Dunlop and chairman of NM Rothschild Australia Holdings, and his wife Vivian.
